Walter F. Schuman

d. September 17, 2017

Dr. Walter F. Schuman, age 81, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, September 17, 2017, following a brief illness.

Walter was born in Roswell, NM and grew up in Albuquerque. He was the only child of Walter A. and Harriet V. Schuman. Walt graduated from Highland High School, where he played and excelled in basketball. He then attended UNM, where he played basketball for the Lobos. He remained an enthusiastic Lobo fan for the rest of his life. After graduating from  UNM, Walt went to dental school in Kansas City where he earned his degree as a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.). He then entered the Army as a commissioned officer and served as Captain in the Dental Corps in Orleans, France for two years. After his discharge, Walt went into private dental practice in Albuquerque, where he fell in love with and married his lovely hygienist, Jane - his wife of 48 years. Walt wanted to be a dentist since middle school, and he pursued this passion long after he retired from his 40 year practice, by contributing to the specialty of implantology. He loved the training of general dentists in placing implants. His greatest passion, however, was knowing Jesus Christ and helping others to know Him through evangelism and discipleship. Walt’s family rejoices in knowing he is now with his Savior and Lord.

Walt is survived by his wife, Jane; his son, Bruce (Cody) and their three sons, William, Henry and George; his daughter, Marney (William) and their three sons and daughter, Zane, Titus, Levi and Sullivan.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2017, 3:00 p.m., at FRENCH – University. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Center City Church, 723 Tijeras Ave. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
