Dr. Walter Kisiel, 70, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed peacefully on the morning of October 5, 2013, in his home in Albuquerque. He is survived by his widow, Suzann Kisiel; his children, Katherine and Kevin; his grandsons, Austin and Nicholas; his sister, Lucy Mahdik; and his brothers, Joe, Len, and Tom Kisiel. Born in Tarentum, PA, December 1942, he devoted his life to his passion, scientific research, serving as a Professor of Pathology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of New Mexico from 1984 until his retirement in 2009 as Professor Emeritus. He collaborated with scientists from around the world in his efforts to discover new ways to fight diseases. The most notable of his achievements in his 40-year career was the creation and development of Factor Vlla, which has become a vital tool in the world of medicine. Most of all, he loved his family, and later in life found great joy in spending time with his young grandsons. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Wyoming.
