Waller Potter

April 2, 1920 — November 13, 2012

POTTER, W.T. "JIGGS"4-02-1920 - 11-13-2012 Born to be a true grocer man, the son of a cattle buyer in Marshall, Oklahoma and grew up with six brothers and sisters who opened their first grocery in 1939 in Marshall, OK. A grocery man who saw so much change in the industry throughout his life from cracker barrels of goods to frozen foods and high tech customer service. Fond memories from childhood of Jiggs playing Santa Clause every Christmas Eve going to his customer's houses, ringing sleigh bells and handing out the presents the parents had hid under the porch! After school he married his high school sweetheart, Dessa. They had two wonderful children together, Waller Theopolus Potter (J.) and Sara Elaine Potter-Whale. After Dessa's death - he met and married in 1966, Mary Bolte and together they ventured to Estes Park, CO where they opened Jiggs Grocery and Deli, the start of many years of various stores throughout Colorado. They retired to Tablerock Lake, Missouri in 1985 only to purchase a small convenience store in Branson featuring a deli with Mary's fried chicken and pies. They once again retired to New Mexico in 1991. His years of retirement were enjoyed by friends and family as he worked at the shop and entertained at the "Tumbleweed" café. We enjoyed his company so much. His love of family and friends made him the perfect host, a role he obviously enjoyed. Jiggs served in the U.S. Army in WWII at the battle of the bulge. His stories were recorded and archived in August 2012 with Veterans Administration. Please visit our online guest book for Jiggs at Lomas Blvd NE505-275-3500
