Wallace I. Harman

Wallace I. Harman, age 86, passed away April 1, 2015. He is survived by his children Pat Harman and his wife, Gina of Littleton, CO, Steve Harman and his wife, Debbie of Littleton, CO., Brad Harman and his wife, Gina of Albuquerque and daughter Carin Harman of Albuquerque; grandchildren Tani Branston and Melissa Harman of Albuquerque and Claire Harman and Loren Harman of Highlands Ranch, CO, Tiffany Gravina and husband John of Lonetree, CO; great-granddaughters Macie and Lacie Branston of Albuquerque; brother Hugh Harman and wife Mary and family of Mesa, AZ; niece Debbie Reynolds of Beverly Hills, CA; and nephew Bill Reynolds of N. Hollywood, CA. Wally suffered a devastating loss with the death of his wife of 63 years, Dorothy on June 4, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his mother and father, Maxie and Owen Harman of El Paso, TX; sisters Maxene of North Hollywood, CA and Mary Wynn of Flagstaff, AZ; brothers Owen D. Harman of El Paso, TX and Patrick H. Harman of El Paso, TX who was killed in WWII while serving as a Marine in the invasion of the Pacific Island of Saipan in the Marianas. He was born in 1928 in El Paso, TX where he was raised and educated. He resided in various cities of New Mexico from 1946 until 1970 when he moved to Albuquerque. He was employed by Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. in El Paso in 1945 in the Construction Depeartment. He was promoted to Foreman and worked with his crew in several cities in southern New Mexico before becoming an Engineer and Service Foreman in Santa Fe and then to Clovis as Plant Chief and Manager. He was promoted to Distict Manager in Albuquerque in 1970 until his retirement in December of 1982 from Mountain Bell. His career encompassed all aspects of the telephone business. Wallace also worked for the State of New Mexico as a communications consultant and engineer from 1983 until 2004. He was a lifetime member of Montezuma Masonic Lodge No. 1 AF&AM of Santa Fe and a 32nd Degree in the Scottish Rite Lodge of Santa Fe, as well as held position in various Civic Clubs and Telephone Pioneers. Wallace was also a past chairman of Curry County United Fund and past chairman of the Albuquerque Economic Development Committee.
