Wade "Malcolm" Lee, age 74, of Rio Rancho NM, died Saturday, Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Suites of Rio Vistas in Rio Rancho NM. He was born on June 27th, 1947, in Sikeston, MO to the late Norman Lee and Mary McAfee.
Malcom grew up in Sikeston, MO surrounded by his parents, four siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. It was obvious early that Malcolm was gifted with the ability to sing and entertain people with his outgoing and witty personality. He had many friends growing up and was in touch with many of them over the years and always loved coming home to attend the high school reunions and stayed very close to his lifelong best friend, Russ Felker. Most people in Sikeston will remember Malcolm from being in the local blue grass band "The Travelers" also in the band was Terry Burke, Russ Felker, Patti McMullin, and Sue Foster. They had quite the following as they won numerous singing contests locally and regionally. Malcolm was a staple on KSIM as that is where he got his start in broadcasting, it was obvious he was a natural on the air and he was going places and boy did he go places! Malcolm also attended Southeast Missouri State and served in the US Army Reserve.
In 1968, he started at KTTS in Springfield Missouri. In 1969 the program director of WQAM from Miami FL was in Springfield and heard him on the air, he called Malcolm and offered him the coveted 3-6 drive time slot. Within months Malcolm was #1 in Miami and his new air name was "Scott Scooter Sherwood" needless to say he was off to the races!
From Miami he went to KXOK in St Louis where he was the 3-6 drive time DJ and Program Director. He was also Program Director and DJ in top markets such as, Milwaukee WRIT, Minneapolis/ST. Paul WDGY, Jacksonville WIVY, Kansas City and Detroit. His biggest success was in Orlando WOCL where he was Program Director and the drive time "Scott Scooter Sherwood morning show" for 10 years and #1 for most those years.
In 2002, Malcolm decided to head west to Albuquerque, NM and was Program Director and morning show DJ at KABG. The last few years Malcolm was semi-retired working for Dreamstyle Remodeling in Albuquerque, NM enjoying himself, playing golf and hitting the casinos with his partner Cathy. He had many friends from his Dreamstyle family and were there for him with prayers and support over the last 11 months.
Malcom will be missed by all he was a loving father, partner, big brother, uncle, and friend to many, we love you and miss you RIP.
Survivors include: two brothers, Jim and Carie McAfee of Plano, TX, Charles and Cindy Riddle of Springfield, MO; two sisters, Carolyn, and Blane Nagel of St. Charles, MO and Frannie and Steve Ferrell of Sikeston, MO; partner, Cathy Eden of Rio Rancho, NM. He was preceded in death by his son, Adam Lee who died December 8, 2021. Also preceding his death, his mother, Mary McAfee who died October 11th, 2011, and his stepfather, Carroll McAfee who died April 10th, 2014.
A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and a Funeral Service at 4:30 p.m., on Friday, March 18, 2022, at First United Methodist Church, 1307 N. Main Street, in Sikeston, Missouri 63801, with Reverend Jennifer Moxley officiating. Interment will follow in the Sikeston City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church in Sikeston Missouri.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022 6:00 p.m. at Dreamstyle Remodeling Showroom, 1460 N Renaissance Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107.
