W. Douglas LaCoss

January 7, 1925 — November 27, 2014

W. Doug LaCoss, 89 year's old, went to the Lord on November 27, 2014. His wife, Lilias (Liz) of 65 years preceded him in 2009, also his sister, Dorothy Schoek in 2006. He is survived by his daughters, Jorja and Jennifer LaCoss of Albuquerque; his grandson, Douglas LaCoss and his wife Sacha; and two great grandsons, Erik 13, and Luke 10 of Grass Valley, CA. Doug was born in 1925 in Stayton, OR. He holds a BSEE degree from the University of Washington and MSEE from University of New Mexico. He served three years with the U.S. Navy, 1943-1946. His Bell System career started in April, 1955 when he joined Sandia Laboratories at Albuquerque, NM as a member of the Technical Staff assigned to the Research and Development Department. He worked with this group on development of nuclear weapons systems until June of 1970, when he moved to North Carolina joining Defense activities in the Maintenance Engineering Organization. In 1975, Doug and Liz moved to Houston, TX, where he was Senior Engineer Planning Manager for the installation of the underground conduit system. He retired from Southern Bell in 1990 and returned to Albuquerque, where he and Liz built their home in the North Valley. Doug was an active member of the National Ski Patrol at Sandia Ski Area and a Section Chief in the Southern Division of NSPS. Doug and Liz traveled to all 50 states and some of Europe. They belonged to bridge, golf, travel and skiing groups. He has joined his beloved in Heaven, where they are probably star hopping. A memorial service will be held at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, 211 Jefferson NE at 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 6, 2014.
