W. Brien Bopp, 71, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2016 after a five month battle with liver cancer. Brien was born in 1945, in Williamstown, PA, to William S. and Marion Bopp. He received his associate's degree in Drafting from Penn State in 1966, which led to a job offer at Sandia National Labs. He accepted the challenge of a seemingly alien land, primarily for the 5 weeks vacation each year. Bringing his bride, Mary Ellen out from Pennsylvania in 1967, a son arrived in 1968 and a daughter in 1974. The job led to an eventual promotion as a Drafting Supervisor and late night studying yielded a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from UNM in 1980. His final job at Sandia was as Military Liaison, an assignment he loved as he reached the 40 year milestone of employment. Brien retired but continued to work as a part-time consultant at Sandia, mixing that in with travel, time at the poker table, Fridays with Bob, and hanging out with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Ellen; son, Eric and his wife, Jennifer; daughter, Erin; grandchildren, Cameron, Chris, Brien, and Molly; brother, Bob and his wife, Cathy of Hazlet, NJ; and various extended family in Pennsylvania; as well as many friends and colleagues. Brien will be cremated, and according to his wishes, services will be held in Pennsylvania at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Legion Post 239, 123 W. Market St, Williamstown, PA, 17098.
