Virginia M. Thrap

 On Saturday, January 6th, 2024, we lost the matriarch of our family! We had 103 years of wonderful memories with her and each of us will remember them fondly. She has touched many people in the 103 years she lived. She was a great human being and showered her family with unlimited love and opportunities. Our hearts are broken, but knowing the angels have led her quickly to her place where she will continue to watch over us all brings comfort and celebration for the time we had with her!

Virginia M. Thrap was born in Solano, New Mexico, on August 17, 1920. She was raised in Roy, New Mexico and is the eldest of seven siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Thrap; mother, Carmelita Mascarenas; father, Jose A. Mascarenas; sisters, Sarah Velarde and Lucia Mascarenas; and brothers, Tony and Eloy Mascarenas.

She is survived by her daughter, Bella Candelaria; granddaughters, Virginia Madrid (husband Joey) and Lisa Pino; brothers, Robert Mascarenas and Carlos Mascarenas (wife Molly); sister-in-law, Ramona Mascarenas; great-grandchildren, James Madrid (wife Melissa), Stephanie and Jacqueline Madrid; great-great-grandchildren, Brandon, Adri, Jude Lee, Mason and Aiden Madrid spanning 5 generations. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews.

Virginia served her country in World War II in the Army Air Corps and continued her career for 30 years in Government Service, mostly with the Office of Personnel Management. Special thanks to the caregivers and nurses along with Presbyterian Hospital Hospice who all respectfully cared for her.

Services will take place Wednesday, January 24, 2024, with a Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and Mass at 10:30 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 1818 Coal Place SE.  Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. NE.
