Virginia Lee Vollmer Gibbs, "Ginny" beloved wife, mother and grandmother was born at St. Lukes in Chicago, IL on April 30, 1942 and passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 4, 2016.
Ginny had never met a stranger in her life, and had a way of making friends with every person she encountered. Those who knew her well, knew that if you were planning on going anywhere with Ginny, you'd have to plan ahead to make enough time for her to stop, talk to, and compliment every person she walked by. Her laughter was unapologetic, her beautiful face traced with soft lines of wisdom, and she had a gracious heart seeking to help both people and animals in times of need. She had a true passion for animal rescue and treasured her time with her adopted dogs and horses.
Ginny's service to the community was diverse and in 1976 she served on the committee for Albuquerque's celebration of the bicentennial. Ginny was a dedicated volunteer for the Junior League of Albuquerque, New Mexico Symphony, and All Faith's Receiving Home. In addition, she was member of Good Shepard Center Auxiliary and found great joy in being a part of Immaculate Conception parish.
At one time, Ginny was a meal site manager for the Office of Senior Affairs and later was an educational assistant in special education at Jefferson Middle School. For over 30 years, she served as the registration and membership secretary for the New Mexico High School Coaches Association.
There is great peace in knowing that Ginny's spirit lives on forever by her dearest husband, Robert (Bobby) of 54 years; her daughter, Lesly C. Stern and her husband, Jonathan; her son, Robert A. Gibbs (Robby) and his wife, Debbie; grandchildren, Taylor, Alexandra, Kassidy, Tyler, and Ashlynn; as well as many other family members and friends who loved her greatly and will continue to honor her beautiful legacy.
A Rosary will be recited on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. A Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Services will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 619 Copper Ave NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
Ginny loved flowers but her desire to continuously give back to the community was far greater. Honoring her lifelong commitment to animal rescue, her family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Animal Humane NM, 615 Virginia St. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
