Virginia M. DeTevis-Francis

June 30, 1934 — July 11, 2024

Virginia M. DeTevis-Francis (Nana), passed away peacefully Thursday, July 11, 2024. Virginia had just celebrated her 90th birthday on June 30, 2024. Virginia was born in Terrero, NM, and for health reasons, her family moved to Albuquerque in 1940. Virginia graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1953. She worked in the retail industry while raising her three teenagers as a single mother. Virginia led an extremely interesting life. She never worked outside the home while her children were growing up. She relied on selling Avon, Miracle Maid, and Tiara for extra money, ensuring fun adventures and wonderful vacations.

Virginia was very outgoing and made many friends at her various jobs. She loved to travel to places near and far. Some of her favorite times were spent right here in New Mexico campgrounds with her children and grandchildren. Virginia was very proud of her beautiful flower filled yard on Atrisco, and you rarely saw her without the companionship of a spoiled little dog. She was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, and her tenacity will never be forgotten.

A big thank you to High Desert Hospice for all your loving care, and to Fountain Hill for all your support.

Virginia was preceded in death by her devoted and loving "Prince Charming," Earl W. Francis; parents, Gomesinda and Federico DeTevis; brother, Lloyd DeTevis; and two nephews. Virginia is survived by her three children, Yvonne Aranda-Tafoya and husband, Joseph Tafoya, Denise Aranda and husband, Michael Garcia, and Daniel Aranda and wife, Rita Aranda; grandchildren, Jared Rowendolas and wife, Cruzi, and Zoey Aranda-Tafoya; and great-grandson, Odesza Rowendolas.

A Rosary for Virginia will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2024, 9:30 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco Dr. SW, 87105. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m., with Deacon Juan Barajas Celebrant.  A reception will follow at the parish hall.  Burial will follow at a later date.
