Virginia Ratliff Chapman

July 3, 1921 — February 25, 2013

Age 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, E. M. (Buddy) Chapman, Jr. in 1993. She earned her Associates Degree from Murray State College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma and thereafter worked and supported the war effort. She met and married Buddy Chapman in 1945. They moved to Albuquerque as newlyweds and started a construction company building homes in what would later become the northeast heights. Virginia helped Buddy in the business as secretary, bookkeeper, and decorator. Later in her life Virginia took classes in braille and produced textbooks for blind college students. Her name was read into the Library of Congress for her work with the Braille Society. Her favorite activity for years was fishing. She is survived by her children, James M. Chapman and wife, Linda, of Albuquerque, Ronald W. (Ronnie) Chapman and wife, Linda, of Albuquerque and Janice Ann Chapman of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren, Kristian L. (Krissy) Chapman of Albuquerque, Leigh W. Chapman and wife, Shannon of Albuquerque and Curtis N. Chapman and wife, Kathy of Albuquerque. Virginia also is survived by five great-grandchildren. She and her husband were long-time members of Trinity United Methodist Church in Albuquerque. In memory of our loving and devoted mother and grandmother please observe a moment of silence, remembrance and prayer on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 12:00 noon. Arrangements have been made by French and private graveside services will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in her name.
