Virgie Nell Gentry Brewer Hale was born in Carlsbad, NM. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1954 and left the family farm for college at the University of New Mexico the same year. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1959. Her first teaching position was in the same year at Bandelier Elementary School in Albuquerque.
In June 1957, Virgie married Ernest Enoch Brewer. She had three daughters. Virgie returned to live in Carlsbad in later years, and she married a second time in June 1996 to Billie Hale, who preceded her in death.
Virgie moved back to Albuquerque in 2009 and spent recent years doing crafts, keeping in touch with friends and loved ones, and spending time with her daughters; Sheryl, Darla, and Dana. Virgie was proud of her grandchildren, Tatia and Christopher, and she adored her great-granddaughter, Marisol.
In her youth, Virgie was an accomplished pianist who represented her hometown in local and regional recital competitions. She enjoyed playing piano to entertain friends in recent years.
She leaves behind one sister, Cora McCauley, and a loving family of nieces and nephews.
