Viola Duran, age 90, died Sunday, July 17, 2016. She is survived by her children, Paul A. Duran and wife, Marina and Loretta P. Gurule and husband, Frank; six grandchildren, Paul A. Duran and wife, Siew Ling, Juanita Duran, Bianca V. Gurule, Frank E. Gurule II and wife, Jennifer, Lorenzo Duran, and Diego Duran; six great-grandchildren, Alyssa Gurule, Gabriella Duran, Kaylee Duran, Ethan Gurule, Aunson Duran, and Gabriel Silas; sisters, Mary Hidalgo, Corrinda Vallejos, Virginia Chavez and Gloria Warren; sisters-in-law, Julia and Leesie; and numerous other relatives and friends. Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Duran; son, Bernard P. Duran; and brothers, Jesus Trujillo and Saturnino Trujillo. Viola was born in 1926 in Jarales, NM to Diego and Pablita Padilla Trujillo. She worked at the Social Security Administration as a Transcriber until her retirement. Viola was a long time member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. She had an entrepreneurial spirit, loving to sew and make crafts. Viola was a woman before her time. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A Rosary will be recited on Monday, July 25, 2016, 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas with a reception following. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Lomas and Tennessee, followed by interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. Pallbearers will be Diego Duran, Frank Gurule, Joe Trujillo, Rudy Griego, Richard Nieto, and Christopher Nieto.
