Victoria Martinez

December 25, 1926 — May 18, 2023

Victoria "Vickie" Martinez, a 50-year resident of Albuquerque passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the age of 96. Her paternal and maternal ancestry trace back to the 15th century with the coming of her 8th great-grandparents arriving to New Mexico from Spain and Mexico.

Descending from the family of great-grandparents, Hilario Pena and Senovia Montoya, Vickie was born on December 25, 1926, in Faywood, New Mexico to parents, Pedro and Dorotea Pena. Vickie was preceded in death by her parents; her infant daughter, Eva Christine; grandson, Rumaldo Gomez; four brothers: Anastacio Pena, Lorenzo Pena, Pete Pena, Abran Pena and two sisters: Antonia Martinez and Isabel Hernandez. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Joe G. Martinez; a daughter, Bertha Gomez (David); two sons, Daniel Martinez (Rosa Laurie) and Joseph Martinez; five grandchildren, Jacob Gomez (Shauna), Dario Gomez, Angela Martinez, Anthony Martinez (Kim) and Melina Whalon; and 9 great-grandchildren; Zach (Savannah), Xander, Ava, Ethan, Nolan, Jacob, Caleb and Emma.  Also surviving is her beloved brother, Eloy Pena of Bayard, NM as well as many nephews, nieces and friends.

Vickie was a homemaker, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was part owner of Accustripe, Inc., founded in 1980 and always contributed her talents and work ethic to help support the business. For many years Vickie played golf with her ladies' group at her home golf course, Arroyo del Oso, and was a world traveler with husband Joe, son Joey and friends.

She had an independent, dedicated, and hard-working spirit. The flea market was her 2nd home for many years, and she delighted in bringing home her treasures. She was ahead of her time in making an outdoor space her own. In the landscaping of trees, plants and yard art, she created a peaceful retreat for herself and for others. She loved the outdoors and soaking up the sunshine.

The family would like to thank Casa Palo Duro for their skill and compassion in creating a happy home for our mother this past year. We also want to acknowledge the staff of Hospice De La Luz. Guided by their experience and dedication, our mother was always with expert and caring hands.

Vickie's celebration of life will begin with a Rosary on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 7:00 p.m., FRENCH - Lomas.
