Victor Anthony Trevino

Victor Anthony Trevino, age 74, passed unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 7, 2021. He was born to Maria C. Romero (deceased) and Francisco L. Trevino (deceased) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Victor is survived by his daughter, Dawn (wife Stephanie); his son, Todd (wife Kayci), several grandchildren, a great-granddaughter; sister, Mary Alice (husband Charlie), sister-in-law Leonella, numerous nephews and nieces, and numerous great nephews and nieces. Victor was preceded by the deaths of his brothers Joseph Venegas, Richard Trevino, and Leon Trevino; sisters Angelina Herrera and Frances Brown.

Victor graduated from Valley High School in 1965. In April 1966, he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Stewart Air Force Base in Newburgh, New York where he met and later married his first wife, Barbara. He was later reassigned to Shu Lin Kou Air Base in Taipei, Taiwan. In May 1972, he was reassigned to The Ohio State University with the ROTC detachment. Victor was asked to transfer to Pan American University in Edinburg, Tx to assist in establishing the new ROTC detachment. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1974, he returned to Albuquerque. Once he reestablished in Albuquerque, he began operating the Rio Grande Ornamental Iron and Welding shop and started his family with the births of his son and daughter.

Victor became involved in Little League with Westgate Little League where he was an umpire, Chief Umpire, and President for 2 years. Victor went on to West Mesa Little League where he became President of West Mesa Little League. He also served as Chief Umpire for District 5. Victor later became involved with Taylor Ranch Soccer Club, after his children started playing soccer. He spent his time as a coach, a referee, Soccer Commissioner of Taylor Ranch Soccer Club, and later President of Northwest Rio Grande Soccer League.

In 1989, Victor closed his business to pursue his dream and joined the Albuquerque Police Department. Victor graduated from the Police Academy in February 1990, married his second wife, Shirley, and was assigned to the Southeast area as a patrol officer. He went on to become a Detective with the Southwest Area Command Impact Team where he was awarded Officer of the Month for June 1995 and the 1995 Officer of the Year for the New Mexico Sheriff and Police Association. Victor served as a Field Investigator with the Criminal Investigation Division. He later returned to the Southwest Impact Team where he again was awarded Officer of the Month for January 2000. Victor retired in December 2011 from the Northwest Area Command, after proudly serving the City of Albuquerque with over 23 years of service. After retirement, Victor enjoyed having the opportunity to travel and see the world, spending time with his family, and golfing with his friends. He also loved working on his various woodworking projects.

A private military honors service will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 24th, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Ladera Golf Course, 3401 Ladera Dr. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120.
