Victor A. Martinez

Victor A. Martinez of Albuquerque, originally from Alcalde, NM, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, February 1, 2019 at the age of 74.

He is preceded in death by his father, Elisaido Martinez; mother, Ramona Martinez-Sanchez; and brothers, Patrick Martinez and Raymond Sanchez. Victor is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Crystal; granddaughter, Alexis; siblings, Clyde (Dorothy), Bella, Fila (Tony), Liz, Mildred, Nora (Michael), and a very large extended family.

Victor served honorably in the U.S. Navy for 6 years, worked as a press operator for 30 years, and was a part time bartender for the American Legion Post 13. Victor loved the outdoors, taking his boat out on lakes across New Mexico, fishing, hunting, and camping with friends and family. But most of all he loved working in his yard. He devotedly tended to his yard by caring for his plants and trees as they produced a variety of fruits and vegetables, while caring for his lush green grass making sure each blade was perfect. Victor was humble, private, strong, and at times an intimidating man, but for those who knew him there was no doubt in the love he had for his friends and family. His perfectionism paid off in the quality of work he performed, along with the pride he took in everything that he did in life. He never complained or took life for granted, and always expressed a willingness to live as he faced everything in life head on with optimism, strength, and courage.

A Rosary will be recited on Monday, February 11, 2019, at 12:00 p.m., followed by a Mass at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo, NM. The family will inter Victor’s remains on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
