Age 93, a resident of Albuquerque for 40 years, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013. Born October 10, 1919, she is survived by her sons, Manuel Franco Urquidez and wife, Adriana, and Blas Franco Urquidez Jr. and wife, Sarah Marie; daughters, Celia Franco Urquidez, Eva Franco Urquidez, and Onayda Franco Urquidez; eleven grandchildren, Liliana, Cesar, Pedro, Jorge, Adrian, Angel Marie, Karmela, Alfonso, Gilbert Jr., Raymond and Rey; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sisters Estefana Lopez, Cristina Estrada and Socorro Hernandez. Mrs. Urquidez was preceded in death by her husband, Blas Lujan Urquidez Sr. and her son, Alvaro Franco Urquidez. Victar or Vickie as she liked to be called, was raised, married and lived in the Carlsbad - Loving area until 1973 when they sold the farm (next to Jim and Sue Ogden's farm) and moved to Albuquerque. Throughout her long life Vickie was never a stranger to hard work. She was an efficient housewife, super mother and great cook and not necessarily in that order. She operated a "Mom and Pop" grocery store in Loving in the 50's, did farm work (she could drive a tractor, hoe and pick cotton with the best). Her joy was her grandchildren for whom she had a soft spot and a generous heart. Last but not least was Daisy, her devoted Chihuahua whom she loved dearly and contrary to the facts, could do no wrong. As the hub of the family, her passing left a void that will be difficult to fill. Rosary will be recited Thursday, May 9, 2013, at 7:00 pm at French - University. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 10, 2013, at 9:00 am at St. Therese Catholic Church, 3424 4th St. NW. Her cremated remains will be interred at Fairview Memorial Park next to her husband, Blas, Sr. and son, Alvaro, at a later date. Pallbearers will be Manuel Balderrama, Robert Corona, Adrian Urquidez, Alfonso Urquidez, Raymond Quinonez, and Larry Joe Barela.
