Vernon Dale Marsh

Vernon Dale Marsh (age 87) of Sandia Park, NM was called home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on January 29, 2019. Born November 15, 1931 in Clayton, NM to Paul and Mildred Marsh. Vernon is survived by Shirley Marsh, his loving wife of nearly 65 years; sons, Dale Marsh of Albuquerque and Jim Marsh of Westminster, CA; daughter-in-law, Donna Marsh; and grandchildren, Emerson Marsh, Rachel Marsh, Shannon Marsh, and Adam Marsh, whom he loved dearly. Vernon also leaves behind a sister, Donna Maddaleni; sister-in-law, Betty Hord and husband Bobby Hord; and nephew Dr. Kent Hall and wife Linda. Vernon was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Hall and Wanda Owens.

Vernon served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. It was at this time, in 1954, that he proposed to Shirley Wood of Raton, NM. The two married on June 20, 1954 and eventually settled in Albuquerque in 1963 where Vernon was employed by Sandia National Labs until his retirement in 1994. In 1982, Vernon and Shirley fulfilled their dream by having a house built in the woods of Sandia Park, NM where he would spend the next 36 years developing the property, hosting many fun-filled gatherings, working in his shop, and hiking the mountains with his beloved German shepherd dogs.

For nearly 40 years, Vernon served faithfully and joyfully as a member of Monterey Baptist Church of Albuquerque where he taught Sunday school, led the music, sang in the choir, and participated in numerous church-related activities. In fact, on most Saturdays Vernon could be found in his study, preparing for the Sunday school lesson. He truly loved his extended Monterey family.

Those who knew Vernon will understand his passion for faith, family, music, the great outdoors, and a good hard-day’s work. He never undertook a task or activity without giving it his very best. His love of God, family, and friends is a legacy he leaves behind as an example for others to follow.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff of Presbyterian Hospital and Hospice of New Mexico for their care and compassion. Friends may visit Monday, February 4, 2019 beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. at Monterey Baptist Church, 12501 Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM. Vernon will be laid to rest at 12:30 p.m. at Sandia Memory Gardens.
