Vernon Curtin Hartman Jr

August 24, 1934 — January 10, 2016

Vernon Curtin Hartman, Jr., 81, of Albuquerque, passed peacefully into the loving care of God on January 10, 2016, from complications due to chronic health issues. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary (Webber) Hartman, and by his twin daughters Kathryn Alice Hartman Raissifar and husband Kenny, of Addison TX, and Mary Elizabeth Hartman Arnholt and husband Mark, and their three children, Nolan, Payton Elizabeth, and Austin (of Albuquerque, NM). Mr. Hartman has four siblings, Susan Hall of Ketchum, ID, Elizabeth Holschuh of Arlington, TX, Sally Beam and brother-in-law Cal, of Elverson PA and Robert Hartman of Bayfield CO; cousin "Vandy" Van der Gracht and wife Gretchen, of Media PA, along with several nieces, nephews and their children.
Mr. Hartman, born August 24, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA, was the first-born of the late Elizabeth (Gray) and Vernon C. Hartman, Sr. He grew up in Westfield, NJ, loved playing baseball, graduated from Westfield HS in 1953, studied at the University of Maine in Orono and later at Columbia University in New York City. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957-1961. Following his marriage to Mary in 1967, his work took them to Saigon, Vietnam and Bangkok, Thailand, where they traveled all over Asia and the Pacific. In 1972, his twin daughters were born and in 1975, his work took them to Tehran, Iran. While living abroad, they traveled all over Iran and Europe. Always a student at heart, Mr. Hartman learned to speak Vietnamese and Farsi while living abroad. He was also a voracious reader and enjoyed a broad range of subject matter. The Hartmans lived for many years in Dallas, TX and Baltimore, MD before landing in Albuquerque, NM in 2013 to enjoy the growing up years of their grandchildren.
Mr. Hartman was loved by many, and will be missed by even more as they recall his dry sense of humor, his love of a good bridge game (by his rules!), discussing books, sports, world events, and playing board games with his grandchildren.
