VERILY BEATRICE REEVES MITCHELLVerily Beatrice (Bea) Reeves Mitchell went to be with her Lord on November 19, 2012 at the age of 86. She was born in George West, Texas to Clyde and L.Z. Reeves on September 11, 1926. April 29, 1950 Verily Beatrice Reeves married Joseph Aldon Mitchell, Jr. (Jack), who survives her. She was a full-time homemaker for 62 years. A job at which she excelled. Making a home for her family was her passion in life. Bea was born during the years of the depression that was sweeping the country in the 1920s. Her early years were spent in the cotton, cane and other agriculture fields picking, chopping and hoeing along with anything else which would help support their family livelihood. Despite her challenging beginnings in life, she always placed everyone else's needs above her own. Despite this challenging start, she studied and passed her GED while Chase was still in high school. Her goal was to "beat" Chase in getting a high school diploma and she achieved it. Bea was a very faithful Christian and thus always active in church and community activities. She loved serving the church and spent over 30 years working in and leading the children's department in various churches. She and her husband, Jack, became interested in genealogy when they were on a visit to South Texas. There they found that her third great-grandfather, Gordon C. Jennings, was killed at the battle of the Alamo. She then joined and became very active in the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT), which as an organization took responsibility for the restoration and upkeep of the Alamo. After realizing she was a direct descendant, she was instrumental in forming another group which came to be called the "Direct Descendants of the Alamo". Bea has four surviving children. They are Robert L. Tyndall and wife Mary of Kinston, NC; Barbara E. Ware and husband Dennis of Roswell, NM; Joseph A. Mitchell, III and wife Melanie of San Antonio, TX; Chase (Marie) Mitchell and wife Shannon of Albuquerque, NM. She is also survived by three grandsons, three granddaughters and four great-granddaughters. She has one surviving sister, Lucy Pritchard; and many beloved friends, nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; five brothers and one sister. Viewing and funeral services will be held at Alameda Baptist Church, 8818 Second Street NW, Albuquerque, 87114, on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, with viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. and services at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow immediately after at Sunset Memorial Park.
