Veretta A. Bell passed away on November 13, 2012 in Albuquerque. Born in Muncie, IN on November 13, 1918, Veretta has been a resident of Albuquerque since 1964. Albuquerque was her husband's last active duty station before his retirement from the Air Force in 1971. She is survived by her husband, Roscoe L. Bell; her son, Stephen C. Bell and his former wife Jamie A. Bell; daughter, Alice B. Davis and husband Bruce K. Davis; granddaughters, Jill S. Zack, Brianna B. Bell and Natasha A. Bridge; great-grandchildren, Braden Zack, and Rebekah and Natalie Bridge. After graduating from Muncie Central High School in 1936, Veretta attended Franklin College where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and later Ball State University where she received an education degree. She taught in the Muncie Elementary School system for five years before marrying Captain Roscoe L. Bell on February 25, 1945, upon his return from fifteen months as a pilot in the China, Burma, and India Theater of operations. As a military wife she moved frequently and volunteered as a Grey Lady at several military hospitals. She taught school in California, Virginia, Nebraska, and for 17 years here in Albuquerque at Hawthorne and Tomisita Elementary Schools and at Kennedy Junior High. During this period of teaching, she earned a Master's Degree in Education at UNM. She was active in the Hoffmantown Church, Sunday School and in many church activities. During leisure periods she enjoyed knitting more than 100 sweaters for relatives and close friends. Following retirement from teaching, she traveled extensively to Hawaii, England, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 26, 2012, 11:00 a.m., at Hoffmantown Church, 8888 Harper Rd. NE.
