Valerio (Val) Lopez

Valerio Lopez, 68, beloved son, brother, husband, grandfather, and friend, was called to his eternal resting place on Sunday, December 22, 2019. He entered this world on Friday, July 27, 1951 in Truchas, NM, born to Eli and Ernestina Lopez. He is survived by his wife, Roxanne; son, Valeriano and wife, Janine; daughter, Tiffany and husband, Morgan; and his brothers, sisters, and grandchildren.

Valerio was caring, generous, and kindhearted. He would drop everything in a heartbeat to help family, friends, and even strangers in need, even if this meant extending himself beyond his own physical or financial capabilities. Valerio was happy despite trials and tribulations life presented and saw only positive and possibilities. Resistance was futile when it came to Val's smile or infectious laughter which would instantly lighten the mood and lift spirits wherever he went, whatever the situation. Valerio was outgoing and personable. Upon the first meeting of Valerio, you had a lifelong friend.

Valerio lived every day with chronic pain that many of us cannot even begin to imagine. Despite this constant suffering, Valerio put on a good face and would not let physical discomfort keep him from living life to the fullest. To the end, Valerio busied himself with multiple projects and stayed active with family and friends. He was extremely talented with anything mechanical and was also an adept woodworker, gardener, and all-around craftsman. Valerio loved the outdoors and cherished any moment he got to spend in the wilderness. Valerio would have been absolutely content living year-round with Truchas Peak as a backdrop.

Valerio touched the life of every person he met and will be remembered for his love and laughter. Although he is missed immensely, we can all be comforted to know that Valerio is pain free, and at peace at last, but lived life to the fullest extent while he was here.

A Memorial Service will be held for Valerio on Friday, January 3, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Church, 4001 Osuna Road NE.
