Valerie Dorothy (Cook) Frederick

Valerie Frederick, 88, born July 12, 1929 in St. Louis Missouri, passed away on May 17, 2018. Valerie was preceded in death by her parents Sylvester and Celeste Cook; her brother Richard Cook; and her husband Ulysse (Fred) Frederick, Jr. Valerie is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Fielding and husband David; her sons David Frederick and wife Julie, Dale Frederick and wife Donna, Ronald Frederick and wife Diana; grandchildren, Heather Fielding, Erin Brooks, Mark, Eric, Lindsey and Jodie Frederick and her great granddaughters Lily Brooks and Megan Miranda. Valerie moved to Albuquerque in July 1946 with her parents and brother. She was a proud 1947 graduate of Albuquerque High School. During her career as a typist at Sandia National Labs she met her husband Fred. Valerie was a strong supporter of our military and our country’s troops and proudly supported Fred in his Air Force postings to Oklahoma, Tripoli Libya and Fairfield California. In retirement Valerie and Fred build their dream home in the Upper Valley of Red River New Mexico. They spent many happy summers watching the wildlife, especially her beloved bears, which earned her the nickname “the bear lady.” Valerie was a loving, kind, generous and joyful mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed.
