Val Jean Singleton Shook, age 94, a lifelong Texan, died Sunday, November 3, 2013 in Albuquerque. She graduated from Texas State College for Women in 1941 with a BA in foods and nutrition. She worked for Dallas Power and Light, doing home demonstrations. During WWII, she was an air traffic controller; first in Dallas and then in Newport, RI, where she married her husband Sam on February 24, 1945. Val Jean is survived by sons, Sam Shook and wife Clarinda, and David Shook; daughter, Sally Morgan; grandchildren, Misa Roehrig and husband Nate, Cyrus Morgan, Graham Morgan; great-grandsons, Cole and Owen Roehrig; sisters, Edie Ruth Williford, and Kate Curry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Phillip Shook Sr. in 2007; parents, Edmond and Jewel Singleton; and sisters, Beth and Helen. Services will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, 10:00 a.m., at St. Chad's Episcopal Church, 7171 Tennyson St. NE. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
