GARCIA, TONY Tony Garcia was called to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the age of 101. He was born in Bernalillo, NM on February 18, 1912. He was preceded in death by his parents, Magdalena and Antonio Garcia; his cherished wife, Minnie; son, Leonard; and grandson, Robert. He was the last survivor of 11 siblings. He is survived by his daughter, Loretta Sanchez; grandson, Rick Sanchez; great-grandsons, Josh, Zach, Noah and Daniel Sanchez. He served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1930 to 1937. Tony is well known throughout New Mexico for selling Christmas trees for over 78 years. He was nationally known as a historian, author and preservationist of New Mexico Spanish Colonial Artifacts. He was a true treasure to all his family and everyone he met. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at FRENCH-Westside, with Rosary recited immediately following the visitation. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 17, 2014, 9:00 a.m., at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 4th St NW (corner of 4th & Alameda), with interment to follow at San Carlos Cemetery on Alameda Blvd NW.
