Tony J. Chavez, age 94, a resident of Albuquerque since 1959 died Monday, January 15, 2018.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Estella; children, Anthony G. Chavez and wife, Sandra Lin, Morris G. Chavez, and Myra G. Chavez; four grandchildren, Lucas Antonio Chavez, Anthony "T.J." Joseph Chavez II, Dustin Anthony Chavez I and fiancee, Ashley Freschette, and Michael Morris Anthony Chavez; sister, Jeanette Howard; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Martina Chavez; grandmother who raised him, Dolores Chavez; and several brothers and sisters.
He was born in 1923 in Bernalillo, NM and graduated from Our Lady of Sorrows High School. After graduation, Tony enlisted into the United States Army where he proudly served during WWII. Shortly thereafter he went to work at Sandia National Labs, retiring after forty years of service. He and Estella were long-time members of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Parish. Tony was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He had a great love for baseball in all forms, to include working for the Albuquerque Dukes and Isotopes for about 40 years. Tony was a friend to everyone. The only strangers were the ones he hadn't met yet. Tony was a perfect husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Friends may visit Monday, January 22, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. till a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Lomas. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, corner of Tennessee and Lomas. Followed by interment at Our Lady of Belen Cemetery in Belen, NM.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Joseph Chavez II, Dustin Anthony Chavez I, Bernie James Maestas, Paul Larribas,Stephen Chavez, James March, and Issac Garcia.
