Tommie Kemp, age 80, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, in Rio Rancho, NM.
Tommie entered this world on May 5, 1942, in Los Angeles, CA, born to Thomas and Anna "Ellen" Hammack. She moved to Clovis, NM as a child, where she graduated from Clovis High School and then earned her degree from Eastern New Mexico University. She married Dale Kemp, her college sweetheart, on August 26, 1961. She was devoted to him and his career in the Army. They moved frequently until being able to return to family in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where they lived for twenty years. Tommie worked as an assistant to the Dean of the College of Business at New Mexico State University until she retired. After retirement, she enjoyed being a grandmother and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an active member of Fairwinds Retirement Community, where she resided until her passing. Tommie developed many close friendships there and she will be missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Terri Abadie and son-in-law, Charlie Abadie, and their children, Ben and Sam Abadie; daughter, Kelli Kurtz and her daughter, Katie Kurtz; as well as an aunt and several cousins and other in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Kemp; her parents, Thomas and Anna Ellen Hammack; and her brother, Woody Hammack.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at 2:30 p.m., at Fairwinds - Rio Rancho Retirement Community, 920 Riverview Dr. SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124.
