Thomas James McTigue, 93, a devout Catholic, long-time member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Albuquerque businessman, and proud father to 5 sons, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022. He entered this world Wednesday, May 8, 1929 in Blue Island, IL, born to Thomas and Mary McTigue.
He loved to travel and learn about new places. He visited several countries and 48 of the U.S. states, missing North Dakota and Alaska. Although his wife Bernadette was born in Bronx, New York, they met across the country in San Diego, CA in 1957. They ultimately settled in Albuquerque, NM in 1964, where the dry climate was good for Tom's health.
Tom served in both the United Stated Marine Corps and the United States Air Force. He was a radar technician in the early days of this technology... proud of his nickname; "Tommy Radar". Leveraging this experience, he became involved in the early space program and national defense system projects. He relished that during most of his civilian working life, he was a self-employed entrepreneur owning several of his own businesses, including owning/managing several properties in SE Albuquerque.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadette McTigue and sister, Mary Catherine Fordice. He is survived by his sons (Chris, Leo, Stephen, Mark, Michael); their spouses (Jennifer, Cheryl, Prina, Hillary, Erin); grandchildren (Ryan, Desiree, Dakota, Kyler, Kevin, Sydney, Michael, Addison, Fiona, Eva); great grandchildren (Scout, Parker, Preston Karl (PK), Paige); and many cherished nieces, nephews and relatives.
