Thomas J. Duran passed away on December 11, 2015 in New Jersey. Tom was born in Brooklyn, NY to Charles Doran and Elizabeth Piccolo on September 8, 1927.
Tom was a member of the Construction Battalion in the United States Navy during World War II. He was very proud to be with the SeaBees. After his time in the Navy he joined the New York Police Department and worked as a member of their communications division.
Tom retired from the NYPD in 1976 and moved to Belen, New Mexico with his wife Marie. He went to work as a security guard at St. Joseph's Hospital in downtown Albuquerque. Shortly after the passing of his wife in 1990, Tom moved to Albuquerque to be closer to family. Tom fully retired after the move and lived happily helping neighbors and friends. He always knew what the weather was going to be and always wanted to know what the weather was like where you lived. Tom loved to tell stories about being a cop and his family always loved to hear them. Sunday dinners were always spent with his family and there was never a dull moment to be had.
Tom was survived by his daughter, Deborah Radigan and husband John; daughter, Susan Riordan and husband Michael; daughter, Kathryn Igel and husband Kenneth; niece, Peggy Napoli and her husband Joseph. He was preceded in death by his sons, Thomas and Michael. Tom has nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Tom also leaves behind his friend of over 20 years, Dena Atler.
