Theresa B. "Bear" Lucero

Our loving and beautiful mother, Theresa B. "Bear" Lucero, peacefully passed away Sunday, February 13, 2022, on the 10th anniversary of her husband, Sabino (Sab) M. Lucero. She was born Mary Theresa Baca on May 11, 1931, and was a life-long resident of Albuquerque, growing up in the Los Duranes Neighborhood. She graduated from Albuquerque High School and after her 6th child was in elementary school, earned her nursing degree from UNM. She was in a private family practice, then post-op at Presbyterian Hospital and finished her career at Digestive Disease Consultants in the GI Lab.

She and Sab were married 62 wonderful years. They would agree that their greatest accomplishment were their six children: Lisa Mazzella, James Lucero, Amy Lucero, Andre Lucero, Joanie Lucero and Stephen Lucero; 8 grandchildren, Michael (Nikko) Mazzella, Christina Mazzella, Natalia Cook, Celeste Lucero, Madison Lucero, Jeren Mathwig, Caelan Lucero & Trace Lucero; and 3 greats, Kaeden Schafer, Kylie Cook & Paisley Cook.

Theresa was very involved in volunteering around Albuquerque with various organizations and especially bringing joy through music with the Palo Duro Choralaires. She had a passion for reading, doing the NY Times puzzles, Sudoku & Cryptoquip with her besties. Her smile and love of life were infectious. Theresa was easy to know and welcomed everyone to be her friend. She loved the Lord and had a special devotion to Our Blessed Mother Mary.

There will be a Rosary & Mass at 9:30 am Friday, March 11, 2022, at Risen Savior Catholic Church 7701 Wyoming Blvd NE. Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery 1900 Edith Blvd NE will be at 12:30 pm.  The family wishes to give a warm thanks to the staff of Lovelace Medical Center & Rehab and Ambercare Hospice for their tender loving care.
