Theodore "Teddy" Chavez

June 1, 1949 — August 17, 2023

Theodore ("Teddy", "Ted") Chavez, 74, beloved Father, Son, Brother, and Coach, died on August 17, 2023. He was born on June 1, 1949, in Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elias and Beatriz Chavez; his brother, Francisco Chavez; sister-in-law, Geraldine Chavez; sister-in-law, Arlene Chavez; and his eldest son, Jason Luther Chavez. He is survived by his son, Derek Chavez; and daughter, Rachel Chavez. He is also survived by his brother, Eli Chavez; sister-in-law, Sheryl Chavez; brother, Wilfred Chavez; sister-in-law, Carmen Chavez; sister, Joanna Rodriguez; brother-in-law, George Rodriguez; sister, Adela Padilla; brother-in-law, Mark Padilla; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Ted graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1967 as a letterman in Basketball, Baseball, and Football. He went on to The University of New Mexico where he completed his B.S. in Physical Education in 1971. He was an educator for APS for a total of 31 years, teaching P.E. at the Elementary level for 22 years and all subjects for the Home/Hospital Instruction program for 12 years. He was a staunch supporter of Lobo Athletics and a forever fan of New Mexico's hometown heroes. As a dedicated disciple and natural minister, his favorite pastime was spreading the Good News: that whosoever believes in Jesus as their Lord and Savior is Justified and Sanctified by Faith through the Imputed Righteousness of Jesus Christ, and because of the process of Substitution and Representation, is declared Holy and Righteous before the Throne of God.

Teddy's Life will be celebrated "The Teddy Way" (wearing Lobo gear is welcomed and encouraged). Services to be held on Thursday, October 5,2023, 1:00 p.m.at FRENCH-Lomas. A reception will immediately follow at the same location.
