Theo Lee Stephens, 67, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, made a peaceful transition to Heaven surrounded by family on October 17, 2024. In 1989, Theo married Melissa Stephens, and in September, they joyfully celebrated 35 years of marriage. Together, they were blessed with two daughters, Kayla Wells and Kelli Anne Shifflett, and four cherished grandchildren: Ainsley, Pilot, Beauden, and Lydia. Theo is survived by his loving wife, Melissa; his daughters; sister Deb Lynn (USAF) and his best friend, Roy Ballard. He leaves behind a legacy of friendship, dedication to family and an unwavering work ethic.
Born on May 27, 1957, in Kermit, Texas, Theo was the son of Benny O'Neil and Marjorie Lucille Stephens. Early in life, Theo became known for managing his stepfather Bob Clary's business, C&S Trucking. After his time with C&S, he continued to apply his expertise and knowledge at Utility Block Co. and Road Runner Ready-Mix, where he kept the machinery in top "Theo" condition.
It would be an understatement to say that Theo enjoyed motorcycles; it was an affair of the heart. When not working, Theo could be found riding, repairing, or planning his next bike adventure. It is estimated that throughout his life, Theo owned more than 50 motorcycles, each of which he no doubt regretted letting go of.
In addition to his dedication to work and biking, Theo made countless memories with his family, spending time at the lake, camping, and bonding with his daughters. Theo took pride in having girls and raised them to be strong and independent. He proudly spoke of their accomplishments every chance he got.
A 1975 graduate of Valley High School, Theo was proud of his achievements, which included making All-State in choir, playing baseball, and earning several medals in varsity track. Following high school, Theo served his country in the U.S. Army Special Forces, a period of service he valued deeply.
Theo is preceded in death by many loved ones, including his parents, Benny O'Neil (U.S. Army Air Corp) and Marjorie Clary; his stepfather, Bob Clary; his brother, Michael Dell (U.S. Marine Corp); and his paternal grandparents, Earnest and Georgia Stephens, and maternal grandparents, Harold Lee and Maxine Moore.
