The Art Opmeer Rev.

July 7, 1929 — August 25, 2015

The Rev. Art Opmeer peacefully went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, August 25, 2015. He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 64 years, Ann; his children, Joan Hurd, Arthur Opmeer and Debbie Reed; and his grandchildren, Julia Hayes, Adam Hurd, Zachary Hurd, Aaron Hurd, Chandra Fowler, and Chelsy Reed. Originally from Holland, Art was a young boy during World War II. Following the war, Art served in the Dutch Air Force and fought in Indonesia. After serving in the military, Art and his new bride Ann moved to Canada for five years. The couple then came to the United States, where Art was able to complete his college degree in just three years due to the rigorous education he had received in Holland. He graduated Cum Laude from Central College in Pella, IA. He then began seminary studies in New Brunswick, NJ, where he graduated with a Master's degree. This was the beginning of Art's deep relationship with the Lord and his life's mission to change peoples' lives through the Good News of Jesus Christ. Art served as Senior Pastor at numerous Presbyterian churches for more than 50 years. He dedicated his time to serving the needs of his congregation and was also a doting and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He is lovingly remembered and terribly missed by those who knew him. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, September 20, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, 1801 Montano Road NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107. FRENCH - Westside 9300 Golf Course Rd NW 505-897-0300
