Tenny Burlyn Churchwell Culp passed away September 13, 2013. She had been a resident of Albuquerque for over 50 years. Tenny was born October 5th, 1927 in Mount Pleasant, Texas. At a young age Tenny and her family moved to California, living mostly in the San Francisco bay area in Sunnyvale, California. During World War II Tenny helped her mother work at the war plant, serving as a helper in the cafeteria. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1945 and worked as an accountant before joining the Navy in 1949. While in the Navy Tenny met David Vere Culp and they were married in Folkston, Georgia in 1950. Their marriage lasted over 50 years until David's death in 2002. David's Naval career too them to live in Florida, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Texas, and Japan, until they finally settled in Albuquerque. Tenny was active in politics and the Democratic Party. She served as Bernalillo County Clerk for two terms, starting in 1979. Over the years Tenny cherished her memories of her service as County Clerk and told many fascinating stories about her years working for the county. Tenny is survived by her three children, Karen Workman (David), David Culp (Andrea), and Allen Culp, (Patty); nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Tenny's family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Brookdale Place for their kindness and respect for Tenny. Her family would also like to thank the professional staff at the VA hospital for their skill and patience during this time of loss. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 16th at 10:00 a.m. at FRENCH - Lomas.
