Sylvia M. Loya, age 69, passed away Friday, January 8, 2021. Sylvia was known for her fun spirit, her love of travel and reading. She is survived by her parents, Maggie and Joe Padilla; her children Ramon, age 42 and Daniel Loya, age 38; her five grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Victoria Saint Loya.
Syvlia graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1974 with a BBA in Accounting. After marrying Oscar Loya and having their two children, the family lived in California and eventually relocated to New Mexico. Sylvia was employed with Parson Brickerhoff from 1995, until she retired in 2017. During retirement, Sylvia dedicated her time to traveling with her husband and spending time with their grandchildren. She is remembered by her grandchildren as being loving, reading books with them and baking.
Sylvia and Oscar loved traveling together and they made many memories driving throughout the country, camping, visiting family and friends and taking their Jeep off roading. You could often find Sylvia reading a book and sitting next to Oscar by a lake or stream while he fished.
Sylvia is survived by four siblings, Patricia, Robert, Elena and Richard. She maintained a close relationship with her siblings and will be missed by each of them.
Sylvia was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2018. She had a fighting spirit and despite her diagnosis she spent as much time as she could making memories with her family and fighting to stay healthy. The loss of Sylvia is felt by many and the family invites those who want to pay their respect to attend her funeral. Services will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021, 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Rio Rancho. At the request of the Loya family, memorial contributions may be made to a cancer organization of your choosing.
