Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Norwyn and Alice Wilson; and brother, Richard. She graduated from Valley High School and UNM. She was active in Girl Scouts for many years and directed camps in NM, CA and IL. Sylvia was affectionately know as "Sliver", a nickname her grandmother gave her. Her first love was teaching. She was very active in Town Club at UNM and as an alumnus. She was a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She sang in the church choir, served on the church council, and was active in "SMILES". In Women of the ELCA, Sylvia mentored younger women, held every office at the local level and also served at the cluster and synodical levels. Sylvia joined the Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous in 2010. Her primary purpose in life became helping other alcoholics who still suffer. Because of her age and failing health, her sober living became an inspiration to many, both young and old.
