Suzanne Furbeck Strange age 82, passed away on June 16, 2019, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, where she had recently moved to be near her daughter. Suzanne, the daughter of Jeanne Furbeck (Nixon) Joyce and Carlton Everett Nixon, grew up in the care of her maternal grandparents, Philip C. and Mabel Fraats Furbeck. In 1954, she married William R. "Bill" Strange; they had been married more than 58 years when he died in 2013.In her first thirty-six years of life, Suzanne lived in more than two dozen towns in six different states. That rootlessness ended in 1973, when she and Bill settled in Greenville, South Carolina, where she remained until earlier this year. Suzanne and Bill also enjoyed traveling together, and their favorite destination was Albuquerque’s annual International Balloon Fiesta. Leaving her beloved Greenville was easier than it might have been because she was moving to a city she loved. For many years, Suzanne owned and operated Enterprise Personnel, recruiting employees for clients in the ceramics industry. She was also a devoted caregiver for both her mother and her mother-in-law in their final years. In 2011, she published a young-adult science fiction book, Weavers of the Crystal Dome.Suzanne is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Bill Stepler; son Michael Strange; grandson John T. Williams (Beth Sandy); step-granddaughter Lara Monette; step-grandsons Brent Gorman and Ryan Stepler (Stacy); half-sisters Renie Nixon Cresitello and Susan Nixon Barry; half-brother Robert E. Joyce (Linda); and a host of other relatives and friends. In accordance with Suzanne’s express wishes, there will be no funeral; instead, the family will hold a private memorial celebration in Greenville later this summer.
