Susanne M. Gooding

Susanne Matlock Gooding, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Wednesday, March 15, 2017. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Richard Gooding of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; her son, Steven Gooding and his wife, Diana Gurule Gooding of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and their daughter, Lynsey Horcasitas; and their son, Cole Gooding and his wife, Renee; her son, Stewart Gooding and his wife, Cynthia Gooding of Tucson, Arizona; and their children, Sam Gooding and Zach Gooding; her daughter, Shawn Gooding Schlafly and her husband, Paul Schlafly of Farmington, New Mexico and their children, Paul and Zachary. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Stewart Matlock. Susanne was born in New Castle, Indiana. She lost her parents at a young age due to a car accident that took their lives. She was raised by her aunt and uncle of Kokomo, Indiana in their stead and graduated from high school there. She attended DePauw University, where she was a member of the Theta sorority. During her time there she met her husband, Richard (Dick) on a blind date. A lifelong romance that spanned some 63 years began on their honeymoon fishing trip to the Canadian Bush. After marrying in Kokomo in 1953, Susanne and Dick moved to Albuquerque, where Dick served in the United States Army. Following
Dick's military service, he began his medical career. Upon completion of Dr. Gooding's residency the couple began raising their family. Susanne was an active member of PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization), an organization that assists young women with their education. Susanne was a life member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church, 2626 Arizona St. NE Albuquerque, NM. Throughout her life, Susanne was an advocate for research to cure women's breast cancer. Her family requests in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Susan G.
