Susan Rhea Jordan

January 28, 1937 — December 20, 2024

Susan Rhea Jordan, age 87 of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on December 20, 2024, following a long decline from dementia. She was born on January 28, 1937, in Pueblo, CO, the youngest of her siblings and the only one born in a hospital.

In 1948, Sue moved to Albuquerque, where she spent the rest of her life. She married the love of her life, John Jordan, in 1956, and together they built a family centered on love, laughter, and devotion. Sue's greatest joy was her family.

She is survived by her children, Johnna Sue (Sam), Lea Ann (Dann), and Scott (Trish), as well as her five grandchildren, Amy, Jacqueline, John, Ryelee, and Deena; and six great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Logan, Lucas, Lena, Faye, and Hilda.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John; her parents, Winfred and Lenora Garrett; and her five siblings, Georgia Lea, Bill, Jake, Charlie, Rex.

Sue had a passion for music, art, and crafts and lived a life of integrity and kindness. After her children were grown, she worked in retail as a hobby, including at the Museum of Albuquerque, the Old Town Christmas Shop, and Assistance League Of Albuquerque Thrift Shop. She loved sharing laughter, often led by her children's retelling of life's most entertaining moments.

A natural leader and advocate, Sue was a beloved school bus driver and band trip chaperone, remembered fondly by students who cherished her presence. In one unforgettable moment, she defended a group of students when a restaurant in Amarillo refused service to some of them due to racial prejudice. Sue's courage and commitment to justice defined her actions that day and throughout her life.

Sue will be interred with her husband in a private ceremony at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at a future date yet to be determined.

The family welcomes donations to Casa Angelica in her memory. Sue Jordan was respected, cherished, and loved-a beacon of strength and kindness who will be deeply missed.
