Sue Beatrice Heil

Age 78, longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2014. She is survived by her daughters, Lanese Jorgensen and husband, Bob Huebner and Laurie Jorgensen; granddaughters, Nicole and Elizabeth, and extended family members. She was recently preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Jerry Heil. Sue was born to Frank and Alma Harris in San Angelo, TX on April 2, 1936. She graduated from Albuquerque High School and The University of New Mexico with a Master's in Education. Sue was a cheerleader at both schools and was delighted in her friendships with the other cheerleaders. After graduation from UNM, she had a long and accomplished career teaching 3rd grade at Corrales Elementary and S.Y. Jackson Elementary Schools until her retirement in 1998. Sue had a big place in her heart for her students and will always be remembered for her energetic teaching style. Sue also took great pleasure in her lasting friendships with her fellow teachers. Throughout their marriage, she and Jerry enjoyed the outdoors together hiking and building their cabin. Sue and Jerry liked to travel and especially loved their trips to Alaska. They were devoted to their church, and their Sunday School classmates were a joy to them. When her daughters were young, Sue was the pianist at another local church and played beautifully. After retirement, Sue enjoyed helping others and served meals at a homeless shelter. Her daughters and granddaughters will always cherish the years they spent together and the valuable lessons she taught them. All who knew Sue are grateful for the amazing mother, grandmother, wife, teacher, friend, and mentor she was. May her smile light up heaven the way it lit up this earth. Friends may visit FRENCH - University on Monday, May 19, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Sandia Baptist Church, 9429 Constitution Ave. NE, on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
