Stella Archuleta, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on November 24. Stella, born in Heck Canyon, NM, on May 4, 1936, to Arthur and Eliza (Rivera) Ashe, was the ninth of fifteen children. Stella was known for her nurturing and compassionate nature as well as her tenacity and her Catholic faith. She shared this with everyone but most especially with her family and held them near and dear to her heart, cherishing every moment spent with them. Stella earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in Secondary Education. She had many hobbies including visiting with family, baking, sewing, rock collecting, traveling, and gardening. She is preceded in death by her parents and ten of her siblings. She is survived by her husband, Steve Archuleta of 50 years, and daughters: Stephanie (Andrew) Collins and Sharon (Art) Brito. She also leaves behind her five grandchildren: Joseph, Luke, Evan, Miles, and Annalise; siblings, Rayes Ashe, Grace Ashe, Joseph (Marcella) Ashe, and Elizabeth Ashe Chavez.
Services will begin with a Rosary at 9 am and Funeral Mass at 10 am at St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in Mora, NM. Interment will follow at Santo Nino Cemetery. Pallbearers include Patrick Ashe, Simon Ashe, Art Brito, Joseph Brito, Paul Perea, and Nick Vigil.
