Stanley J. Moore (Capt. USA Ret.) a resident of Albuquerque since July 1958 died on August 23, 2015. Stanley was born in Milwaukee, WI on November 7, 1919. He is survived by his brother, Paul; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, who died March 27, 2010 after 63 years of a loving and successful marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, and four sisters. He enlisted in the Army in November 1940. He advanced through the ranks and retired as a Captain after 20 years of service. He survived the sinking of his troop ship in the English Channel during the Battle of the Bulge. At the end of the war, (July 1945) he was assigned to Hq., Berlin District Office of Military Government, Army of Occupation. There he met his future wife, Lt. Barbara Stramel of Pfeifer, KS, who was on duty at the station hospital. They were married on October 19, 1946, the first American military couple to be wed in post-war Berlin. Their honeymoon included Paris and the French Riviera. Stanley received additional assignments in Europe and was considered an outstanding officer. In addition to his other duties he coached the division basketball team to a runner-up finish in their group. He was recommended for promotion to Captain in 1953 and received his promotion in 1954. New Assignments took him to Fr. Benning, GA, Japan, and finally to Sandra Base. He retired in 1960 after 20 years of service. His military awards included the Anny Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and three campaign service medals. He received letters of appreciation from President Harry S. Truman, Secretary of Defense Charles E. Wilson, and the office of President Rhee, Republic of Korea. In 1965 Mr. Moore sought employment and was hired by the Air Force as a Printing Assistant. He advanced through various grades and responsibilities and retired in May 1972 as Chief, Printing, Duplicating and Distribution Branch, Administrative Services Division. In the interim he was awarded three outstanding performance rating and one outstanding and sustained superior performance rating. Mr. Moore served as the Administration Division representative on the Holloman AFB consolidation and the Sandia - Kirtland AFB merger and was instrumental in these smooth reorganizations. During their marriage Barbara and Stanley visited all 50 states and traveled to 20 countries. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Villa Mathias, 901 Brother Mathias Pl. (13th St.) NW. He will be placed next to Barbara in the columbarium at Brother Mathias grave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Center, 218 Iron St., Albuquerque, NM 87102.
