Sosimo (Mo) Herrera

September 12, 1933 — February 15, 2014

Herrera, Sosimo (Mo) Age 80, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of February 15, 2014. A longtime resident of Albuquerque, Sosimo is survived by Carole, his wife of 33 years; two daughters, Donna (Eddie) Montoya and Lisa (Keith) King; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; his brothers, Adan (A.J.) (Nancy), Floyd (Susan) and Pete (Patricia) and sisters Elizabeth (Marvin) Gallegos and Lorie Salazar. He's also survived by brothers-in-law Andy (Maryann) Vallejos; Victor (Yvonne) Vallejos and sisters-in-law, Jennie (Jimmy) Duran; Dolly (Billy Joe) Lara and Diane Vallejos. Also, a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leandro and Belen Herrera, his sister Clara Roybal, his brother Leo and in-laws, Isidro and Lupe Vallejos. Mo's inspiring and faith-based earthly journey began on Sept. 12, 1933 in the northern New Mexico village of Chamita. He was the fourth of eight children who grew up on an apple and chile farm in the Espanola Valley. His was a life of multiple missions. Service to his country as an Army veteran, devotion to the Lord as a member of the Penitentes Brotherhood; a college graduate from the University of Albuquerque, and his career as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. An avid and accomplished golfer, Mo for many years competed in amateur tournaments throughout the state. He loved spending time working on his garden and impeccable backyard. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan who among the few things remaining on his bucket list at the time of his passing was the hope the Cubs would win a World Series during his lifetime. Mo's greatest gift though was his unconditional love and unwavering devotion to his family. He was the rock, the go-to guy for the Herrera and Vallejos families. He was a man who opened his heart as easily as he opened the door to his home to those he touched and those who sought to touch him. He was a unique and wondrous man with a sense of humor to match. Ultimately, his greatest joy came from the life he shared with his soul mate Carole and his calling as the ultimate role model for his daughters and grandchildren.
