Sophie Davalos, 93, born in Puerto de Luna, NM on April 19, 1924 to Juanita and Antonio Olona, entered her eternal reward with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 18, 2017, after her fight with cancer. She is survived by daughter Ella and husband Quentin Pettis, of Corrales, NM; sons, Fred Jr. Davalos, of Denver, CO, David Davalos and wife Kim, of Denver, CO, Donald Davalos and wife Jane, of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Darren Pettis, Corri and husband Ryan Apodaca, Melissa & husband Keith Martineau, Matthew Davalos, Joel Davalos and Erica Davalos; Great grandchildren, Amanda Pettis Gonzales, Ava, Charlize, Jacobi and Josiah Apodaca; sister, Lucy Lopez, of Clovis, NM. Sophie was preceded in death by son, Arthur Davalos in 1978, and the love of her life, husband Fred in 2012.
Sophie decided early in life her desire to become a beautician. She was asked to open and manage a salon in Las Vegas, NM, which she did. She married Fred in 1951 and moved to Albuquerque where she taught at the Hollywood Beauty School until she opened her own beauty salon, The Towne and Country Beauty Salon which she owned and operated for 40 years until her retirement at 75 years of age. Sophie enjoyed traveling to many destinations; Mexico, Japan, Austria, Italy, The Holy Land, Hawaii and cruised to the Bahamas and Puerto Rico. She was very active in the Nativity Parish choir and was a devoted parishioner at Nativity Parish in Alameda, NM. Sophie had a special gift of making friends of strangers and everyone she met. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched. She will be remembered for her kindness, faithfulness, generosity, love and dedication to her family and friends.
The family would like to express a deep appreciation and thanks to doctors, nurses, technicians and therapists at Healthcare South, Genesis Rehab Center of Albuquerque and Compassus Hospice. Contributions may be made to Catholic Relief Services, www.crs.org or any charity of choice. A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 7:00 p.m., at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church 9502 4th St NW, Albuquerque, NM, and a Mass of the Resurrection on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
