Sophia Sylvia (Kurnat) McHugh
May 12, 1919 — April 29, 2017
Sophia McHugh, 97, beloved mother and wife, was called to her eternal resting place on April 29, 2017. She entered this world on May 12, 1919 in Chicago, IL, born to John and Regina Kurnat.
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Clay and husband Larry, and Karen Clay and husband Cledith; her grandchildren, Jason, Nathan, Ben, John, Sara and Rachel, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Thomas McHugh and her son, David McHugh.
Sophia was an avid quilter and enjoyed reading and crafting. Before moving to New Mexico in 1972, Sophia lived in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and California. Over her lifetime, Sophia held a variety of occupations from beautician to realtor to electronics assembler. After retiring, Sophia and Tom enjoyed taking road trips and traveling around the Southwest.
A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at FRENCH – Westside, followed by a Graveside Service at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87501.
