Sonja Soon Waldin

Sonja Soon Waldin (born 순송자), 79, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, loving mother, grandmother, and friend to so many, passed away peacefully at home on April 30, 2023.


Sonja is survived by her sons, Ray Waldin and Walt Waldin; her grandsons, Timothy Waldin and Oliver Waldin; her sisters, Nam Shin Pak (순남신), Ok Cha Caparas (순옥자), and Sun Cha Rotter (순순자); and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Raymond Ogle Waldin; and her late brother, Nam San Sun (순남선).


Born near Seoul, South Korea on October 8, 1943, to her late father Soon Byung Tae (순병태) and late mother Lee Ok Nyeo (이옥녀), Sonja's life touched everyone she met, everywhere she went. From Korea to Guam to Los Angeles and finally here to Albuquerque, she embraced life with passion and overcame every challenge life put to her with dignity and determination. She will be remembered with love and sorely missed by all.
