Socorro Maria Vigil Silva, 91, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully at her home, on August 1, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Socorro was born in Pecos, NM on June 18, 1925.
Socorro married Agapito (Gap) E. Silva on August 12, 1946 in Gallup, NM. They were happily married for over 60 years until the passing of Gap in 2007. Together they raised seven children with much love and dedication: Frederico (Nora), Michael (Mary), Patricia, Agapito (Mary), Maurice (Rosemary), Jerome (Carla), and Erlinda. She is survived by her thirteen grandchildren, Emma, Reina, John Michael, Danielle, Thomas, James, Phillip, Theresa, Amanda, Melanie, Rachel, Emily, and Isabel. She is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and close family friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Federico and Estephanita Vigil; her most loving husband, Gap; and eldest son, Frederico.
Socorro was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She enjoyed traveling, embroidering, fishing, and camping in the Pecos Wilderness. She was happiest when cooking in her kitchen, with Gap for her family and numerous friends. Socorro and Gap traveled on behalf of The Bataan and Corregidor Veterans, working to keep the memory of their sacrifices alive. She remained active with the Bataan and Corregidor Foundation after Gap's passing.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Home Instead, Mary Martinez, and Socorro's wonderful caregivers: Pamela, Patricia, Glenda, JoBeth, Jeannie, Shaelynn, Carla, Vickie, and numerous others.
Services will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 619 Copper Ave. 87102, Albuquerque, NM. The Rosary will be held on Monday, August 8, 2016 at 7:00 p.m., with visitation from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe, NM, will follow the services at 2:15 p.m.
