SMSGT William Marion "Bill" Self

SMSGT William "Bill" Marion Self, (USAF) Ret., Age 96, a resident of Albuquerque for close to forty years, died Friday, June 19, 2015. He is survived by three grandchildren, James Daughtrey, Amber Daughtrey, and Wade Daughtrey and wife, Maureen; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Gerlt, Jennelle Gerlt, Rachael Borns, and Kyle Daughtrey; three great-great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lura "Evelyn" Self; sons, Robert "Norlan" Daughtrey and Lynn Daughtrey; and grandson, Christopher Norlan. He was born in 1918 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas and grew up across the line in Oklahoma. After high school he entered the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Sill, OK. He continued in the United States Air Force until his retirement in the mid 60's. Bill and Evelyn joined family members in Oregon and both enjoyed pursuing a second retirement from Techtronics Corp. For many years in retirement, they enjoyed traveling the country in their RV, and playing golf, before settling back in Albuquerque. Bill was a loving grandfather and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and a Graveside Service will be held in Lubbock, TX at a later date.
