Sidney Alfred Sanchez

September 25, 1930 — June 4, 2024

Sidney Alfred Joseph Sanchez passed away peacefully on June 4th, 2024, at the age of 93. Sidney was born in San Luis, Colorado, the oldest of four brothers. In his childhood he worked in his family's farming and agricultural business. Sidney started at age 16 working for the railroad alongside his father to provide financially for his family. As a young man he served in the Air Force, and was stationed in Alaska and Arizona. He later attended Adam State University in Alamosa, CO, where he received his undergraduate degree and two masters degrees in mathematics. He later moved to Albuquerque, NM, where he taught algebra, geometry and calculus at Valley High School for over 35 years. He also taught math at the University of New Mexico and computer science at Kirtland Air Force Base during many of his summers. In addition to being an educator, he was a successful businessman, investing in real estate properties in the Albuquerque area. Sidney greatly enjoyed his family, dog breeding, vegetable gardening, Spanish folk singing, and playing classical guitar in his free time. Most of all, Sidney was a devoted, loving husband and father to his sons. He is preceded in death, by his wife Ella E. Sanchez, and is survived by his sons, Andrew Sanchez and Benjamin Sanchez. Sidney was a kind, generous, honest and gentle soul who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
