Shirley Sechrist, age 84, born in Sabetha, KS, a resident of Albuquerque since 1962, passed away Monday, March 11, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her loved ones.
Shirley is survived by her son, Gary J. Sechrist and his fiancé Carla; grandchildren, David E. Sechrist, Ryan G. Sechrist, Jeffrey J. Sechrist, Cyrus A. Sechrist, Jacob R. Sechrist, and Kourtney A. Kimbrel; son-in-law, Art Kimbrel; former daughter-in-law, Gerry Sechrist; nine great-grandchildren, Inez, David Jr., Eve, Joshua, Jimmy, Ryanna, Aliyah, Isaiah, and Julie; two sisters, Linda Goins and husband Kenneth, Sandra Lee and husband Gene; three brothers, Wayne Madsen, Gerald Madsen, Carroll Madsen and wife Beth; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, John Sechrist, in 2012; her beloved daughter, Deborah A. Kimbrel, in 1991; her parents, Sophus and Bessie Madsen, of Roswell, NM; brothers, Jim Madsen, Tom Madsen, and Gayle Madsen; and two sisters, Betty and Martha.
Shirley was a volunteer for many years. She was the President of the Presbyterian Auxiliary in 1984-1985 and was the chairman of the monthly blood drives for Kaseman and Presbyterian hospitals. Shirley also volunteered for the Assistance League of Albuquerque. She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s United Methodist church since 1974 and belonged to the United Methodists Womens Committee. Shirley was greatly loved by all her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, March 24, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 9500 Constitution NE.
